|Pianist Pandelis (pronounced "Panda-lease") Karayorgis crosses Monk's percussive touch with a Tristano-esque sense of line, and alto saxophonist Pakula ("pa-COOL-a") proves the perfect foil with a sound descended from Lee Konitz, Ornette Coleman and Paul Desmond. In duets and quartets, with various rhythm sections, they play originals and nine Tristano tunes with an empathy bordering on telepathy. Swinging, pensive and humorous.
"Striking originals and bop's least explored territory...More interested in the transformation of the jazz tradition than simply in preservation." Ed Hazell, Boston Phoenix
"They walk the road less taken by today's jazz lion and that's refreshing." SOS Jazz
"Even more than a continuation of the Tristano lineage, it is the suggestion of something new and vital, without losing the essence of jazz." from liner notes by Art Lange
