| Bhob Rainey - Soprano Saxophone:
Bhob Rainey has performed all over the United States - from New York's Knitting Factory to Seattle's Speakeasy and just about everywhere in between. He has played with John Zorn, Joe McPhee, Pauline Oliveros, Michael Zerang, Joe and Mat Maneri, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jack Wright, Steve Drury, Phil Gelb, Hal Rammel, Pandelis Karayorgis, and countless others. With trumpeter Greg Kelley, and partially with percussionist Tatsuya Nakatni, under the band name nmperign, he completed what has been regarded as one of the first independent continental U.S. tours by
an experimental music ensemble. As well as being a highly regarded improviser, Rainey is an accomplished performer of new music, having performed the works of John Cage, Pozzi Escot ("Thrilling...virtuosic.... [Mr. Rainey] has a great depth of
understanding."], and a slew of local Boston composers. Rainey has also performed at several colleges and universities,
including the Rhode Island School of Design, Duquesne, Appalachian State, and The New England Conservatory. He has also performed several times at Boston's Autumn Uprising festival of new and improvised music. Recently, Rainey's solo CD, ink., was chosen as one of the top ten albums of 1998 by Cadence Magazine. |
