| This is a "true" debut album by trumpeter John McNeil (b. March 23, 1948 in
Eureka, CA) who by the time of this recording first released in 1978 had, in his own words, "played
with anyone of note", made a bow to make an album before he turned 30, and
sent a demo tape to SteepleChase. Producer Nils Winther liked what he heard
and signed McNeil. The recording took place the day before his 30th
birthday.
"...A very satisfying first album..." (Jazz Journal)
"...The story of John McNeil speaks well of his perseverance and shows how
important the independent labels are in maintaining the jazz tradition..."
