| Recorded for Germany's Radio Bremen in 1973, in the period when Bennink was storming Europe in a trio with Peter Brötzmann and Fred van Hove, Nerve Beats is a great recording never before issued on CD; it comes from a time when Bennink deployed a gigantic setup: metal percussion, tons of extra drums, tablas, an early drum-machine, as well as non-percussive instruments like trombone, clarinet & various impossible-to-describe objects. A three-track live concert recorded in its entirety at the acoustically ideal Rathaus, Nerve Beats is also the only live document available of Han performing solo at this time, as his early FMP and ICP records are now out of print (and decidedly sought-after). |
