Beginning in 1987 with a Terry Riley composition, Rova began commissioning pieces from composers whow ere willing to write for improvisers using non-standard forms. Ahuge number of these pieces were commissioned with funds from meet the Composer / Reader’s Digest Commissioning Fund and later Comissioning Music USA. The Works document those pieces. Originally the idea was to make 5 Cds, then rerelease them all as a box set. But Black Saint’s current fiscal instability might mean that these 3 CDs will be the story on record…

This volume features the music of Robin Holcomb, Muhal Richard Abrams and Steve Adams.

ARTISTS
Bruce Ackley (soprano and tenor saxophones); Jon Raskin (baritone and alto saxophones); Steve Adams (alto and sopranino saxophones); Larry Ochs (tenor and sopranino saxophones)
