This is the second in a series of live recordings that will be issued by SteepleChase over the next few years. The first (SCCD 31500 - "Inside Chicago, vol. 1) was released this past June. Trumpeter Brad Goode (SCCD 31491 - "Toy Trumpet") made the recordings between 1992 and 1998 of club dates he did with Chicago's own living legend and tenorman Von Freeman. This date was recorded live at Joe Segal's Jazz Showcase at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago and also features Joan Hickey (piano), Sherman Davis (bass), and Michael Raynor (drums). "The performances are scintillating, in the top echelon of Freeman's recorded material". Harvey Pekar - Jazz Times (jan/feb 2001-feature). Freeman works often and hard in Chicago and around the world and of late has enjoyed a rediscovery by the jazz media who has deemed fit to feature in depth articles about him in major publications (Downbeat- cover story March 2001, Jazz Times - jan/feb 2001). Von has three other studio dates also available on SteepleChase (SCCD 31310, 31320, 31351).
