Recorded in December 2000, this CD features nine original Ballou compositions performed by Billy Drewes (sop,ts), Tony Malaby (ts), Mike Formanek (bass), Tom Rainy (dr), and Ballou (tpt). Harvey Pekar of Jazz Times (April 2000) writes of Ballou: "He's a sound, knowledgeable and versatile musician who can improvise impressively in a free context or on complex chord changes. Also impressive is his inventiveness, he's able to sustain interest consistently." This CD marks Ballou's fourth effort as a leader for Steeplechase.
