When he was invited to perform in California, Hawkins put together a quintet adjusted to the new sounds without leaving tradition behind. At last in CD all the recordings that this group released for ASCH and CAPITOL between 1944 and 1945. Also included is Hawkins' solo recording of "Hawk's Variations, Parts 1 & 2".
