September 4th saw the release of Annie Whitehead's first album on Provocateur Records, The Gathering - this album highlights Annie's trademark style; passion, power, rhythm and funk, and captures her music at its most infectious. This renowned artistry, combined with the influences Whitehead blends from across the musical spectrum, radiates from every track and the guest vocals of Robert Wyatt on “Before We Knew” provide a powerful sense of occasion. It comes as no surprise that Annie utilises a diverse range of musical factors when you consider her varied and illustrious career; performing with Elvis Costello, Paul Weller, Gabrielle, The Spice Girls, Blur, Boyzone and Joan Armatrading amongst others, as well as joining the Penguin Café Orchestra in 1991. During this career her adaptability and eclectic approach has led her to play and tour with Chris MacGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, as well as performing on Carla Bley's Big Band Theory album in 1993. Her debut solo album, released in 1996, Naked, generated rave reviews and was described by The Observer as "Full of warmth, humour and attractive tunes."
