Muddy Waters Blues Clair
When you’re a versatile artist with eclectic tastes, the temptation (especially with your first solo CD) is to show everything you can do. And if you’re writing about such an artist, the typical approach would be to drive home the fact that Joe Blow is the Lon Chaney of the guitar, a chameleon-of-all-trades with a thousand tricks up his sleeve.
But for his debut, Jeff Ross, a veteran of many bands in many styles, recorded a blues album, not a combo platter. Sure, there are tracks that offer varying shades, but if you bought this album, a) you’re probably wanting to hear some blues, and b) you’re into (and might even play) guitar. And so, a blues guitar album you shall get.
"(An) impressive and auspicious (and long- overdue) debut recording." –Dan Forte |
