Despite its conventional line-up, Trio BraamdeJoodeVatcher has nothing in common with the traditional jazz piano trio. The band comprises three of the Dutch jazz scene's most idiosyncratic musicians, for whom improvisation and adventure are as necessary as breathing. Each of them plays an absolutely equal role in the music. Trio BraamDeJoodeVatcher shines in short powerful pieces bursting with cutting edge musical interaction. Furious energy alternates with subtle lyricism that never lapses into unqualified romanticism. The long friendship between drummer Michael Vatcher, bassplayer Wilbert de Joode and pianist Michiel Braam results in intuitive playing of the highest order - fixed forms, arrangements or role division never get in the way of the music. The trio began in 1989 with interpretations of Thelonius Monk compositions, but soon began playing their own material.

In 2001 Trio BraamDeJoodeVatcher presented Colors by Ken Nordine in collaboration with voice artist Jaap Blonk and improvising dancers Katie Duck, Eileen Standley and Masako Noguchi. Michiel Braam's original compositions which form the basis for the improvisations draw on 34 texts that the Fuller Paint Company commissioned from well-known poet and radio and TV 'voice' Ken Nordine in 1967. The CD Colors (without Jaap Blonk) appeared in 2002.
