| Released in September of 2000, 'Age' is a fusion soul album with roots in jazz, spoken word, drum-n-bass, world music, dub, and music's yet to be named.
On Daniel Givens debut release one will find sounds past, present and future. Each track lives as an atmosphere unto itself, yet collectively, they work in the traditions of interplanetary works by Pharaoh Sanders, Lee Perry, Sun Ra, Agustus Pablo, 4hero and Carl Craig, amongst many others.
On 'Age' Givens performs & programs all instrumentation, along with receiving help from friends: Glenda Baker (David Boykin, In The Spirit) on vocals, Funsho Akerele-Ale (photographer, pianist, poet and singer) on vocals, Nicole Mitchell (David Boykin, AACM) on flute, Yvie Raji (storyteller and poet) on vocals, Josh Abrams (Town & Country, David Boykin) on bass, Jeff Parker (Tortoise, AACM, Isotope 217, Chicago Underground Orchestra) on guitar and Fred Lonberg-Holm (Flying Luttenbachers, Pillow) on cello.
As for the packaging of this record we are particularly proud. The cd version comes in a gatefold jacket with printed innersleeve. The vinyl version is on black wax, in gatefold jacket with printing on each innner-sleeve! 2xlp is limited to 1000, photos are by Daniel & design is by Hans Seeger (Pulseprogramming). |
