There Is No Greater Love |
I've Got The World On A String |
 |
| Henry Johnson's talents and credentials are confirmed by the bandleaders who have used him as their first-call guitarist over the years, including Stanley Turrentine, Ramsey Lewis, Freddie Hubbard, and Jimmy Smith. As a staple in Joe Williams' band for fifteen years, Joe always introduced him by saying, "This is how the guitar is really supposed to sound". This is one of the most remarkable bands and CDs ever produced from the now famous Floating Jazz Festival series. Johnson's rich and innovative guitar work is only one of the highlights. The spectacular virtuosity of pianist Kenny Drew, Jr. is certainly another. With the addition of gifted Chicago bassist Larry Gray, and drummer extraordinaire, Paul Humphrey, who has been the backbone on countless great recordings by Horace Silver, Quincy Jones, Steely Dan, and many others, this is a phenomenal musical performance in every way. As an added bonus, Vanessa Rubin joins them with her vocal magic, and puts it over the top! |
