A seminal recording by David Murray featuring a quartet augmented by vocalist Marta Contreas. Similar to Murray's Low Class Conspiracy recordings such as FLOWERS FOR ALBERT, there is a Coltrane/Ayler inspired sound here mixed with the melodies found in more traditional jazz. Marta Contreas's horn-like vocals work well on "Namthini's Shadow" and "Interboogieology," with the former's mournful qualities being especially haunting. "Home," a Murray composition that shows up in a later Octet recording, is presented here in a duet performance with Bassist Johnny Dyani. On the whole, INTERBOOGIEOLOGY points to the more intricately melodic direction Murray would pursue in the '80s with his recordings such as MURRAY'S STEPS and MORNING SONG. The inclusion of a vocalist on INTERBOOGIEOLOGY is also striking in contrast to Murray's more experimental leanings, but works well in the context of the instrumentation and compositions on this disc.
