| I've been waiting years for this reissue, and I know several others at my local store who shared that feeling. My vinyl had a warp, and wasn't great anyway, so it was every bit as great as I remembered to hear "Final Analysis" kick off a very exciting album. Where else are you gonna hear bewildering time signatures played at rock intensity by a pumped young jazz big band in front of knowing jazz hippies in a pyschedelic venue? Where else are you going to hear a ring modulator on a trumpet? So much talent on display, from chops to arranging to writing. I knew a bass player who claimed to have played with Don Ellis slightly before this period, and I asked him how he could deal with those time signatures. His response: "Easy....one, one, one, one, one...." For those unfamiliar Wounded Bird is a no-frills reissue label at a reasonable price. Bonus material and packaging hardly matter with music this good. |
