Koln Concert 1976

| A live date from Bill Evans -- but a very nicely recorded one, and a session that sparkles with some of the best energy of other 70s trio dates! Despite the fact that Evans was hardly recording at all in 1976, the session's got a great deal of warmth and joy -- and still a tremendous amount of that uniquely lyrical Evans approach to the keys of the piano. Tracks are long, and open up with some nice intensity -- thanks in part to always-great bass work from Eddie Gomez, who rounds out the tunes with a nice bottom tone -- freeing up drummer Eliot Zigmund to dance around the drum kit a bit more. Titles include "Time Remembered", "Morning Glory", "34 Skidoo", "Sugar Plum", "Sareen Jurer", and "Turn Out The Stars". CD also features 3 more bonus tracks -- also recorded well -- from a 1972 date in Milan. The group features Gomez on bass and Marty Morrell on drums -- and titles include "How My Heart Sings", "Time Remembered", and "Twelve Toned Tune". |
