One of the most wonderful live recordings we've ever heard from Bill Evans -- beautifully played and exquisitely captured, with a sense of space and sound that's simply amazing! The session was done for the French Office of Radio & TV -- who've given Evans plenty of room to stretch out on longer tracks, yet do so with a sense of poise and focus that's quite different from some of the more rambling Evans live material that was often recorded at the time. The group features Eddie Gomez on bass, whose notes are captured especially well here, and Marty Morell on drums -- and the performance features over an hour of music that includes "Twelve Tone Tune", "Waltz For Debby", "Quiet Now", "Very Early", "Time Remembered", "Turn Out The Stars", and "Re: Person I Knew". Added to these tracks is an unusual bonus one -- a trio recording from Yugoslavia in 1972, featuring Tony Oxley and Eddie Gomez in the trio -- on a 15 minute reading of "Nardis". |
