| There are many stars of Brazilian Popular Music. But there was only one Baden Powell (1937-2000). Residing in the same musical pantheon as Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, Powell, christened Baden Powell de Aquino, and named after the leader of the Boy Scouts, was arguably the greatest guitarist of Brazil. Before his death at the age of 63 in Paris, Powell's status as a legend was secured by his expansive, classically-trained, Afro-Luso guitar technique, his collaborations with de Moraes and his incredible discography which includes over 50 records.
This CD is the last recording made by the master. It is a LIVE performance in Brussels (Belgium) recorded in October 30, 1999 less than one year before his death.
The performance at Theatre 140, magnificently recorded, includes 15 stunning renditions of legendary bossa nova songs |
