| Fapy Lafertin is a name long well-known to European fans of Manouche jazz; he's a dazzling guitarist of Gypsy heritage and one of the modern era's giants of the Django Reinhardt tradition. This delicious set showcases the venerable Lafertin and his quintet and features the young Dutch violin phenom Tim Kliphuis, whose swing-like-mad rhythmic propulsion and singing, lyrical tone invoke the great Stephane Grappelly. A sprinkling of Brazilian-style choros, with Fapy's beloved Portuguese guitarra, leavens this sparkling set, one of the freshest, most compelling Django-style jazz albums we've heard in a long, long time.
