| Quite possibly the most comprehensive collection we've ever seen of Chet Baker's legendary vocal work for Pacific Jazz in the 50s -- a double-length set that brings together the albums Chet Baker Sings and Chet Baker Sings & Plays With Russ Freeman! Freeman's actually on both albums here -- mostly playing piano alongside Chet in quartet mode, but occasionally working with slight strings to flesh out a few of the 24 tunes in the set. The main focus is always on Chet, though -- either singing or playing trumpet on the shortish tracks on the set -- always with that perfectly-placed style of his early years, a model of understatement, but one that had the power to completely transform a handful of standards into Chet Baker signature tunes!
