As the title indicates, Debbie Cameron's first jazz CD was recorded in New York. The album is her fourth as leader but the first she has made in her native country. All but two of the numbers are jazz standards and one of those original compositions is a personal tribute to Thelonious Monk - "I Love Monk". This CD is pure jazz, quite without pop manipulations and the studio layering techniques so widespread in today's commercial environment. It has presence and maturity - a human voice, accomplished musicians, and a string of fine songs. No frills and everything is at stake - the voice is naked and there is no room for regret.
