The Beijing International Jazz Festival has existed since 1993 - and since 1994 with Scandinavian participants. In 1999 the participant was Scandinavian Summit.Scandinavian Summit is a band brought together for the occasion. the music is airy, sophisticated and fresh, with sensitive and open interplay among the musicians. You hear the fresh wind, the sky and the snow-topped mountains. There actually is such a thing as a Nordic sound. Here there is no pandering to the newly "jazz-converted" Asians, no easy gestures to win over the audience. There is "only" music. And it is obvious that this is quite sufficient for the Chinese.
