| The first of a series of recordings of Law's unaccompanied performances of new compositions and interpretations, some of which are represented on 'The Moment' as quartet performances.
Worthy of concentrated listening, though also very accessible, these pieces range from 'Funfare', inspired by a piano piece by the contemporary composer Ligeti, through a number of tracks set to become new jazz standards, to two stunning re-interpretations of Ellington compositions.
This CD is the first volume in a planned series of solo recordings which, while having both the intimacy of a solo recording and also simultaneously allowing John Law to stretch out pianistically, will also serve to represent his enormous diversity. |
