The Dawntreader realized between July 1 and September 12 1981 at Short Circuit Studios, New York City. Source material recorded on the ML-5 by Dean Roumanis on June 28 1981. Final mixdown at R.B.Y. studios, Southbury CT on Sept 16, 1981.
The compositions heard on this album include two recent works, one piece written in 1978 by composer Mark Helias and a composition by Earl Howard from 1980. The two recent works represent a direction in solo music I have been pursuing since the fall of 1979. Up until then I had never formalized the vocabulary of sound techniques I had developed as an improviser. By concentrating on the refinement and annotation of these techniques I have endeavored to extend the compositional vocabulary of the instrument and to develop the individual techniques beyond being simply sound effects. |
