| Like a very brilliant shouting star right before it blazes out into the heavens, the Bob Belden Ensemble enjoyed a brief but illuminating history. After recording Treasure Island for Sunnyside, the Ensemble traveled to France in the fall of 1990 for two exciting concerts, one at the Jazz En Tête Festival in Clermont-Ferrand and the other at the La Cigale Theater in Paris.
Despite the inherent acoustic limitations of live recording, the Paris Jazz Festival recording by Radio France vividly captures and conveys the energy, passion, and fresh musical perspectives with which Belden and his cohorts delivered the music on that memorable October night. |
