| Music in the true spirit of Albert Ayler was what was offered to a devoutly audience at club Crescendo on a cool winter day this February. That was the free jazz saxophonist Charles Gayle with Gerald Benson on bass and Michael Wimberly on drums who played.
Now we have a recording from their concert in Stockholm the day before and this is a real article of great value.
They start with “Cherokee” at insane tempo and then keep the same intensity through the whole record. Gayle’s own compositions are mixed with standards like “Giant Steps” and “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise”.
All the time with a power which could move mountains. Uno Ohlsson Recorded in concert at the Glenn Miller Café, Stockholm, Sweden, February 12, 2006. |
