| THE PREVIOUS EVENING is comprised of three parts, each of which was created to accompany choreographed dance pieces. The first part is an homage to John Cage and was premiered by the London Contemporary Dance Theatre. Appropriately, it utilized chance elements and juxtaposition. The second and third parts were premiered in Germany, and involved combinations of live performance and taped elements. The taped extracts include some of Frith's own earlier work, as well as pieces by Cage, Schumann and Mozart. THE PREVIOUS EVENING has a sustained mood of intriguing happenstance; it even includes birdcalls, recorded on a farm in Australia early one morning.
