| Miles with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter & Tony Williams : this is probably the ‘second greatest’ Miles Davis Quintet - after the Coltrane-Kelly-Chambers-Cobb unit. These currently otherwise unavailable live sessions were recorded on a winter tour of Europe in 1967 : the first 5 tracks in Stockholm in October; and the next 7 tracks at Karlsruhe, Germany, in November. This exact line-up had only been together for a year at this time (Ron Carter was the last one to be added) and these outstanding concerts marked the turning point between acoustic & electric Miles - with old favourites like “Around Midnight” and “Walkin’” sitting side by side with newer pieces like “Agitation” (from the “ESP” album) and “Footprints” & “Gingerbread Boy” from “Miles Smiles”, recorded the year before.
Total Time : 75.21 mins. Newly & carefully remastered |
