What an outstanding experience to see such jazz fitures together on one stand! This was one of the nearly fifty concerts played by the so called "Giants of Jazz", a true all-star group that toured Europe in the last months of 1971 and the first months of 1972. This band put an almost retired Thelonious Monk back on the road, and reunited him with Art Blakey, who had participated on some of Monk's earlier studio sessions and would alos appear on his last date, made in London during the same tour.
This Prague concert is the only known evidence of the Giants of Jazz on film. The excellent image and sound quality of this unique and previously unissued document deserves special mention. |
