| "While taking his 'np3' album on a world tour in 2002, Nils began taping the shows through what was obviously a peak in both his and the band's creativity. While the studio sound had begun to take advantage of the multifarious tools for sculpting sound, this latter technique was something the NPM live show had begun to incorporate more and more. Not only this, but the band themselves were delivering heavy-hitting shows night after night and the live interaction was unearthing something new from the rich starting points of Nils' haunting melodies and soundscapes, not only that but the audiences were embracing everything that was thrown at them.
Taking two particularly outstanding shows, one from Finland's 'Jazz Happening' in Tampere, the second from London's recently revived Marquee Club, the results sharpened with some NPM and DJ Strangefruit production magic, retain an essential raw energy. Through songs from 'np3', 'Khmer' and 'Solid Ether' the logical conclusion of the live event of "freezing the moment", the message becomes urgent and more intense, the narrative themes huge in their dimensions and sound. 'Streamer' marks a crescendo in the development of NPM's sound, the culture-clash of jazz-noir and crushing beats, capped with blissful melodies a stark reminder that despite life's unrelenting march through chaos and uncertainty, there's a brighter beauty at its heart." |
