| his historic recording is an invaluable addition to the collection of any music lover interested in the development of avant-garde music. The source of the music is a series of original tapes that survive in excellent condition and are preserved in the archives of the former Studio di Fonologia at RAI (Italian Radio and Television) in Milan, Italy. Luigi Nono (1924-1990) is one of the best-known modern Italian composers. He began exploring electronic music in 1960 at the RAI studios and his very fi rst work, Omaggio a Emilio Vedova, opens the program on these historic CDs. From 1964 on, much of Nono’s electronic music was based on sung and spoken vocal material, the Studio di Fonologia having been created specifi cally as a facility to research the human voice. |
