| 2007 issued digitally remastered edition of the 1970 classic third album by the British jazz-rock fusion band that revolved around core members Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper, Mike Ratledge and Robert Wyatt. Their music explored the emerging fusion jazz that was propelled by the release of Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew", released the same year. "Third" is widely regarded as vanguard of the Canterbury music scene thanks to the chemistry of the four primary players. This reissue presents all four original album tracks (each originally occupied an entire LP side!) along with a bonus disc with a live BBC Session recorded at London's Royal Albert Hall. |
ARTISTS Soft Machine: Robert Wyatt (vocals, drums); Rab Spall (violin); Jimmy Hastings (flute, bass clarinet); Lyn Dobson (flute, soprano saxphone); Elton Dean (alto saxophone, saxello); Nick Evans (trombone); Mike Ratledge (piano, organ); Hugh Hopper (bass). |
