| Untraditional variations of ragtime, beautiful impressionistic landscapes and a wild energy heard seldom in a Danish jazz trio, makes the Søren Kjærgaard Trio a very interesting rising on the scene, and the double release “Amfebia” and “Akustika” resembles a new sound of the classic piano trio setting.
"Amfebia" is as the title points out, an amphebic experience. The trio conjures powerful atmospheres in a telepathic interplay, and the original compositions takes the listener on a journey, weather it’s riding the wave in full swing or meditating below surface in full boyancy. The trio openly links to both old and new sounds which brings it a timeless quality.
The music is composed mainly by Søren Kjærgaard, and the tunes vary from being in one groove, one vibe, to suite like compositions. The pianistic expression is reminiscent of both Duke Ellington, Debussy and Kieth Jarret, and this new shooting star on the scene demands his attention. Since Søren Kjærgaard won the acclaimed Nordic Young Jazz competition in 2000, he has been busy on the scene among some of the most talented Danish jazz artists, and performing internationally with a.o. Michael Blake, Tim Berne, Herb Robertson, Jim Black and Stephen Bernstein. His approach to the piano is both classic and unorthodox. Virtuosic sheets of sound goes hand in hand with prepared sounds and edgy frasing. A tone which reveals studies in the colorful history of the piano litterature. for more, www.sorenkjaergaard.com |
