| BANDAPART is a new shooting star on the Danish alternative jazz scene, consisting of four young musicians who individually have already influenced the sound of Danish jazz. With their self titled debut album, BANDAPART, they have created a sound universe of filmic dimensions, mixing electronic and acoustic conceptions into a dusty, dreamy space. You will find sounds reminiscent of both Duke Ellington and Sonic Youth, and yet BANDAPART is strikingly original. The two melodic instruments played by Søren Kjærgaard (wurlitzer) and Jakob Bro (guitar) blend together as they play melodies and improvised lines in and out of each other. A concept that gives a more collective approach to the songs. BANDAPART is in many ways a band apart from the mainstream, avoiding generel genre labels. The sound production draws lines to the wall of sound of the 60’s. A rough edged poetry. Most of the repertoire is written by Søren Kjærgaard, but Jakob Bro and the drummer, Jeppe Gram, has also contributed with two songs each. The bassplayer is the Berlin based Dane, Jonas Westergaard.
The Bandapart musicians has performed internationally with a.o. Paul Motian, Michael Blake, Tim Berne, Ben Street, Michael Formanek, Dave Tronzo, Peter Brötzman, Jim Black, George Garzone, Chris Cheeck, Ben Monder, Tony Malaby, John Thichai, Pierre Dørge, Bent Jædig, Hugo Rasmussen, Jens Winther, Kasper Tranberg and many more..... |
