| 20-bit remastered Japanese paper LP-sleeve edition CD. An overlooked Brecker Brothers gem from the end of the 70s -- easily one of their most soulful sets from the Arista years, and a record that's got way more lasting power than the Cold War reference of its title! The Brecker's are still rooted in jazz here, but definitely step out with plenty of soul in the mix too -- vocals from DJ Rogers, Carl Carlwell, Luther Vandross, and others -- all of whom really add a lot to the set. The presence of these vocals provides a nice variety -- especially given that only about half the tracks have some singing -- and in a way, this addition holds back some of the too-jamming tendencies that the Brothers could have -- keeping them strongly in the groove throughout! Other players include George Duke on keyboards, Hiram Bullock on guitar, Steve Jordan on drums, and Airto on percussion -- on titles that include "You Ga Ta Give It", "Not Tonight", "Tee'd Off", "Squish", "Baffled", "Dream Theme", and "I Don't Know Either". |
