His Master's Noise

Features music that has been produced through the auspices of the Institute since the late '50s. Fans of electronic music will have their ears perk up at this date because there is nothing quite as phenomenal as listening to the groundbreaking electronic music of that era. In some ways a collection such as this deserves some kind of split rating as it combines pieces by people whose likenesses would be carved on the Mt. Rushmore of electronic music, if there was such a thing, with works by young composers judged in a contest held by the Institute at the close of the millennium. So there is no way some of these young composers can compete with, say, Edgar Varese. Some producers would fear combining acknowledged masterpieces with the work of up-and-coming composers, but in the context of this collection it makes perfect sense. A real coup is the inclusion of a recently discovered early version of "Concret PH" by the Greek avant-garde composition genius Iannis Xenakis.
