The Train & the River: A Musical Odyssey is a brillian existential video/sound scape in its suggestions of longing and insight into the world of the creative improvising musician - specifically Trio X: Joe McPhee (sax and trumpet), Dominic Duval (bass), and Jay Rosen (drums).
Provocative, open-ended, and yet totally concise in its portrayal of the improvisors. This is a beautifully filmed and edited tale; direct, honest, and free of pretension.
The message here is personal, real, of the moment, and universal. This is a storyline to be enjoyed on many levels.
