| With the exception of Art Tatum, Hines was the most forward looking jazz piano player of his era, a challenge and inspiration to all others, a big swinger and a fine band pianist too. In addition to his outstanding talents at the keyboard, Hines was a pleasant, if unsensational singer. He also wrote tunes and arrangements for his orchestra. As a composer, some of his tunes became standards, with Rosetta, My Monday Date and You Can Depend On Me among them. |
