Third stream, the meeting point between jazz and classical music, is presently proving one of the most creatively productive areas of our music. This “tribute” to the films of Andrei Tarkovsky falls as much within contemporary composition as it does within jazz. … This is mood music of a highly sophisticated kind, sad, sombre, elegiac and without closure suggesting instead something infinite and pure. The colours and textures that Couturier conjures from these simple resources are quite lovely and the sense he invokes is one of being enveloped or cocooned. -Duncan Heining, Jazzwise |
