For this album on Candid, Ervin suggested a free blowing date largely based, however on new material. For his rhythm section, he chose drummer Al Harewood, pianist Horace Parlan and a remarkable bassist, George Tucker, who had worked with Earl Bostic, John Coltrane, Jackie McLean, Kenny Burrell, Lou Donaldson and others.
