Since the 1930s Hampton has been respected as a dynamic and unique vocalist and percussion player. In this concert he is backed by a similarly legendary lineup of jazz musicians with decades of experience; the youngest of the group, saxophonist Benny Golson, was 64 at the time of the concert recording in 1993. Hampton himself was 84, and amazingly still retains the energy and enthusiasm that made him a standout musician to begin with. |
