A known jazz and soul producer at that point (Electric Prunes, Nat Adderly, etc.), he combined orchestral production techniques into the realms of psychedelic rock and soundtrackian aura. Sparse production and the habit of inserting long, clean drum breaks assured him coveted sampling status for over a decade now (see DJ Shadow, many others).
