The deeply moving expressiveness of the orchestral trilogy Der Engel der Geschichte (“The Angel of History”), inspired by Paul Klee’s painting “Angelus Novus” and documented by this recording of the exemplary SWR production, speaks for itself. The second composition, “Les Otages,” was inspired by Jean Fautrier’s war hostage paintings.
