| This fourth album as leader by Michael Rosen is a cd which continues the evolutive process of his earlier works. With its poetic vein and contemporary sound, the cd continues in the tradition of its predecessors, uniting Rosen's american jazz roots with the melodic colors of the mediterranean. An important new development this time is the introduction of richer orchestral textures, exploiting a greater range of timbres with the use of acoustic and classical guitar, piano and vibes, all of which contribute in creating the light mood of this bright, and optimistic cd. A cd which is made up of compositions which are "beautiful" in the literal sense of the word, characterized by a logical and lyrical simplicity which allows for maximum freedom of expression in the improvisative process. What stikes the listener above all is Rosen's capacity to make the entire group work together, perfectly combining individual skills and collective collaboration, a true mark of a real jazz musician. - Maurizio Franco |
