The Wailers’ last album to feature Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, ‘Burnin’’ was released in 1973, their third release for the Island Records imprint Tuff Gong. His first US record to be awarded gold status, it was an important release in bringing roots reggae to a pop audience, which was pushed further into the mainstream when Eric Clapton covered the album’s ‘I Shot The Sheriff’. Starting with the Marley classic ‘Get Up, Stand Up’, the album has a slightly more militant tone to previous releases. According to an article written by Wyclef Jean for Rolling Stone, “Marley almost single-handedly brought reggae to the world.” |
