Alex Riel is the grand old man of Danish Jazz, and in 2008 he celebrates his 50 year anniversary.
As part of this anniversary, Cowbell Music releases two exceptional albums with Alex Riel and the American alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano, whom Alex has known since the 60s where they performed together in Copenhagen, Sweden, Germany and the US. Several decades later, the two top artists met once again in Denmark, where they recorded two albums: Live at Stars and Blues & Ballads (please press the link to the left to read more about the latter)

Together with the Swedish piano comet Jacob Karlzon, the Danish bass genius Jesper Lundgaard and Alex Riel on drums, Charlie Mariano entered the stage at the Jazz club STARS in Vordingborg, Denmark in the autumn of 2007. Immediately, it was evident that Mariano in spite of his more than 80 years of age can still capture an audience! At Alex´ eager request, the concert was recorded by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation and thus everyone can experience the magic night. |
