Besides Thelonious Monk’s “Bemsha Swing,” all of the compositions here are penned by Jobic Le Masson, and from some of the titles come clues as to their intention: “Hill” is a homage to the late pianist Andrew Hill; “Evidence To The Contrary” and “Monk Medium” apparent. In everyone’s creative process there are always refl ections on the past. Fortunately, in this case the ghosts of Monk and Duke are in attendance, evident in the lush, jagged romanticism and unexpected twists and turns.
