| Joe has assembled an impressive collection of musicians for this cd- Norman Simmons is the best in the business at accompanying and augmenting a singer; wherever Joe, takes a song, Simmons follows and makes the journey all the more enjoyable- Joe pays tribute to his favorite singers/songwriters on this album- "Same Old Story" is a wonderful moment, as is "Jimmy's Blues," and homage to Williams' predecessor in the Basie Band, Jimmy Rushing. Ever the innovator, Williams and Co. deftly mate the Williams-classic, "Every Day I Have the Blues" with Miles Davis' "All Blues." And of course, there is the Joe Turner classic, "Roll 'em, Pete" to send the audience home happy and the listener back to the beggining of the LP. |
