| This CD contains two consecutive albums by Benny Carter. One of them, Aspects, included here as a bonus, is well known. The other, Can-Can and Anything Goes, has not been reissued since its original LP appearance and is presented here on CD for the first time ever. Carter was a talented alto sax and trumpet player, as well as arranger, composer and big band leader. By 1958, the 51-year old Carter had already been in the business for more than thirty years and was respected as a historic figure (he made his first recordings with the Charlie Johnson band including the great Jabbo Smith in 1927). Therefore, no one could have expected that he would still be musically active for another forty more years. |
