All known music from the 1963 Stuttgart performance by the Sonny Rollins-Don Cherry piano-less quartet. The three initial tunes, appear here on CD for the first time ever, and the concert's finale, "Oleo", is previously unissued in any format. As a bonus, a rare trio version of "I Want to Be Happy" recorded by Rollins live at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival and two rare 1965 quintet tracks. Includes 8-page booklet. In 1962, two great jazz forces came together to collaborate for a number of months. Just like the partnership between John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy in 1960, Sonny Rollins and Don Cherry's collective discography spans less than a year. However, the music produced from their association was extremely interesting and belies their limited time together. This CD contains all known existing recordings from their January 29, 1963 Stuttgart concert. The first three tunes from the performance ("52nd Street Theme", "On Green Dolphin Street" and "Sonnymoon for Two") were only previously issued on a long out of print LP, and appear here on CD for the first time ever. The fourth tune, "Oleo", has never been issued before and appears here for the first time on any format. As a bonus, we have added a rare live version of "I Want to Be Happy" by Rollins in trio format, backed by Henry Grimes on bass and Roy Haynes on drums. It was recorded at the Newport Jazz Festival on July 7, 1958, and has only previously appeared on a long out of print compilation of Newport performances. The last two bonus tracks come from a 1965 Berlin performance which found Rollins in a quintet format (but as the only horn) in the company of Milt Jackson, Kenny Drew, Percy Heath and Art Blakey.
